Intelligence of Gilmore Girls

Post  summersun on Fri Jun 12, 2009 2:28 am

I thought I'd open a discussion on the intelligence of Gilmore Girls to see what other people think of it. While it is no Shakespeare, I think we can all mostly agree that it is a witty drama in the desolate field of mindless stuff we often see when we turn on the television.

Personally, while I don't think it's perfect, I tune into Gilmore Girls because it's filled with clever allusions, whether to pop culture, or to literature, and so on. It promotes higher education, especially in women - after all, Rory has wanted nothing more than to go to Harvard and then, Yale. She has succeeded and thrived.

Perhaps there is a danger in assuming we should live Gilmore Girls-like lives, and in believing the show to be a realistic example of lives in Connecticut. I watch TV to be entertained, though for me, the stereotypes and wit of this show make it a comfy fit Tuesday nights when I watch it.
